Freedom, not fascism, defeats fascism
Adolf Hitler once said that the strength of the totalitarian system was that it forced even those who feared it to emulate its methods. In calling for police chiefs to ban all members of a particular political party from joining the force, David Blunkett keenly proves him right. It is an enormous understatement to say that the British National Party has had and does have some dodgy connections. But no one could seriously claim that it has been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people. Yet when it comes to Sinn Fein/IRA, no one could seriously claim that it has not been directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds and hundreds of people. Now look at which of these parties' members the government is wanting banned from joining the police and you can understand a huge amount about New Labour.
The BNP will never be defeated by stooping to totalitarian lengths of the sort that would delight the Socialist Workers' Party's Anti-Nazi League, which calls for the expulsion of all university students who support the racist party. They will be defeated if and when a genuinely free society is willing to refute their obnoxious arguments and pay heed to the concerns about mass immigration that lead people to support them. Free societies are better than this, and that is why our model will always be superior to that proposed by every Nazi incarnation. This sort of undemocratic measure will fail, and deserve to.
