A candidate worth waiting for
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Jeremy Middleton was yesterday selected as the Conservative candidate for the Hartlepool by-election. After delivering an excellent and memorable speech to the North East's MEP selection meeting, Middleton was put second on the Tory list in the North East for the European Elections this year, and obviously worked hard in a contest where the odds were against him.
Hartlepool Tories certainly face an uphill struggle this time, but they have chosen the right man to take them through it. If we do better than expected, it will be because of him. If we do poorly, it will be despite him.
