A right return
John Redwood's return from the backbenches is great news. Redwood is probably the best thinker the Conservative Party has in the House of Commons, and combines it with incisive debating skills that he uses to real effect in highlighting the holes in Labour's policies and rhetoric. It's amusing that the more John Redwood's reputation in some quarters for extremism grows, the more mainstream his recommendations actually become within the party. If any proof were needed of that, just read Michael Howard's speech in Southampton this June and compare it to the Europe policy recommended in Redwood's 1996 book 'Our Currency, Our Country'. Let us hope more of Redwood's ideas will undergo a similar process, now that he is better placed to make the case for them.
